How to prevent boating accidents?

by | Jun 3, 2016 | Firm News

Florida’s beautiful beaches and sunny weather allow Floridians to own a boat or go on a boat. That’s very common. Especially at this time of year. Unfortunately, many people get injured on boat accidents. The Boating Accidents Statistical Report indicates that Florida had 634 boating accidents and 73 boating related fatalities in 2014.

If you own a boat or plan on renting one this summer, there are some things you should know to protect yourself and others from getting injured.

  1. Do not drink while you ride the boat. If you drink while boating, you will not be able to attend to anyone or yourself if an accident occurs.
  2. Ensure that you have addressed any concerns and maintenance issues prior to taking your boat out in the water.
  3. Make sure you have enough life jackets on the boat and make sure everyone on the boat is wearing one.
  4. Make sure everyone you bring with you on the boat understands the importance of being responsible. Remember, if you are the boat owner, you could be held responsible for their injuries.
  5. Do not allow more passengers than the permitted capacity.
  6. Never take the chance to boat in bad weather conditions.
  7. Make sure to ride responsibly, do not speed or turn your boat while you are at high speed.
